About the Event
What can a giant footprint teach you about math? In this highly engaging workshop, students will kick off their learning with a “Big Foot” investigation—analyzing the shoe size of a mystery celebrity to estimate their height. It’s just one of many hands-on activities that make math feel real, relevant, and fun.
Designed for students of all math backgrounds—whether they’ve struggled in traditional classes or love solving puzzles—this workshop introduces key concepts in statistics and probability through a series of Model Eliciting Activities (MEAs). These interactive challenges are designed to spark curiosity and build real-world problem-solving skills.
Students will work in small groups to explore:
Proportional reasoning and estimation
Sample size and variability
Data interpretation and central tendency (mean, median, mode)
